Village Lunch
Sponsored by Signpost Housing and
Dorset POPP
Village Lunch is in its third successful year and is
held on the last Saturday of every month in the village hall and is a
non profit-making function. We have a working committee of eight
volunteers, which consists of Chair, Secretary, Treasurer other
committee members have various duties at the lunch.
The ethos of the lunch is to give a sense
of community, a function where villagers and folk from the wider
community can meet, have a laugh and a chat whilst enjoying good food
and company.
Village lunch is not a club, we do not
collect subscriptions it is open for anyone to attend, tickets are £6.00
each for a two course meal. This includes wine, fruit juices, tea/coffee
and chocolate mints. Children are welcome and charged half price for a
half size portion. Numbers of diners vary each month and can be anything
from 35 – 45 in number.
The meal is prepared and cooked by our
village pub The Royal Oak and delivered hot to the hall. A team of
volunteers then serve the food and take it to the diners.
Volunteers are recruited from the diners,
this involves putting up tables, setting them, arranging fresh flowers
on them, serving the meal, clearing away and washing up.
In order to help support the village
lunch funds, a raffle is held and diners bring a prize for the raffle.
Donations of wine or fruit juices are also brought along. Those that do
not bring any drink are encouraged to give a donation towards the
alcohol.
During the year we have a ‘Fair Trade’
stall this is not every month and is dependant upon the Fair trade
Representatives commitments. However, when the stall is in situ it is
very well supported by the diners.
In September, we have a Harvest Lunch, we
encourage the diners to bring harvest produce, this is displayed during
the lunch and after the meal it is taken up to the Church to be included
in the harvest celebrations.
