MILBORNE ST. ANDREW
Helping the
needy in Kenya
MANY PEOPLE worked hard to raise money during Christian Aid Week. This
culminated with musical entertainment on the Saturday night by the
Memory Lane Swing Band in the garden of Little England Cottage.
Additionally, a Goons sketch was performed by members of the Milborne
Players.
PCC members had great fun peeling sacks of potatoes that went towards
the sausage and mash supper during the interval, supplemented by some
delicious trifles – much enjoyed by everyone (it was a sell-out). A big
“thank you” to Charlotte for organising the event. To date, £455 was
raised from this event alone, and a further £392 has been taken via the
door-to-door collections.
The Christian Aid theme was continued on the Sunday afternoon at
Milborne Praise! when Sarah showed this year’s Christian Aid DVD about
poor sanitation in parts of Kenya. The children then went on to make
money-boxes out of toilet roll holders, which they took home to put
their pennies in to help the deprived Kenyan children.
At April’s Annual Parochial Church Meeting the following were elected or
re-elected: Churchwardens, Eva Stockley and Pat Tribe; Secretary,
Carolyn Martin; Treasurer, Andrew Mott; PCC members, Teresa
Holmes-Thompson, Sue Lucas, Derek Ross, Elizabeth Walker, Kate Williams
and Linda Wright.
Plans for toilets in church finalised
At the PCC meeting on 11th May the main topic for discussion was the
provision of toilets in church. The plans have now been finalised with
the addition of some storage space under the west window of the north
transept. The plans have been submitted to the Diocesan Advisory
Committee to apply for a faculty to carry out the work.

DEWLISH CHURCH NOTES
Importance of fund-raising efforts
MANY THANKS to all who supported us at the Spring Sale. We raised
£364.91 for church funds. These fund-raising events are very important
in keeping the church finances healthy, and so I am very pleased to say
that we have two such events lined up for June.
First, Mrs Audrey Penniston has kindly offered to open her delightful
garden on Sunday 13th June, from 2.00–6.00pm. Audrey lives at Flower Cottage, Waterston. Teas will be
available. The second event is on Thursday 17th June, when Mrs Daphne
Berridge will hold a coffee morning at Shailes Farmhouse from 10.30am–12noon. Daphne also has a beautiful garden, full of wonderful scented
roses.
On Sunday 4th July, we are holding our Parish Picnic on the village
green – further details next month.
At our AGM Daphne Berridge resigned as Church Secretary after doing the
job for many years. Thank you, Daphne, for all your hard work. Judith
Bridger has taken on the job of Secretary. Although we had already been
notified, Benny explained his reasons for leaving around the end of this
year. We wish him and Mel well for the future.
