MILBORNE ST ANDREW'S CHURCH NOTES FOR DECEMBER
At October's Milborne Praise we
were “rooted in Jesus”. We stuck some beautiful autumn leaves on a big
drawing of a tree, then on paper leaves wrote one of the “fruits of the
spirit” that we would like to have such as kindness, patience, love.
These were added to the tree whose roots went deep into the
ground holding the tree firm and bringing nourishment
- just as Jesus does
for us.
On October 29th.
In church the audience was entertained by music
from the Purbeck Recorder Consort and Celeste. The consort members,
under the leadership of David Cook played a variety of recorders from
sopranino to bass and their repertoire ranged from Elizabethan dances
through folk songs and rags to The Beatles. Celeste (Marion Bishop and
Nicki Brunt) sang most delightfully and their choice of music led us
from Cole Porter to Sibelius. They were ably accompanied by Rosie
Coldwell. With wine and nibbles in the interval it was a most enjoyable
evening and raised £206 for the Flush Fund. Very many thanks to all who
helped in any way.
During October we had some good fund raising for the flush
fund. Pat Shipton's Coffee Morning and Pam Shult's Pamper Evening all
helped to swell the funds. We also received some donations. Thank you
everyone for your help and support.
Does anyone need a lift to church?. If you have
difficulty getting there or need transport when the Benefice Service is
at another church we can arrange transport for you. Please contact Eva
on 837468 or Pat 837684
Church cleaning – Is there anyone who would be
willing to help with church cleaning?.
The cleaners work in pairs and it is not onerous as each pair's
turn comes round only every 7 weeks. With more cleaners the turns would
come round even less frequently!. If you can help please ring Carolyn
Martin on 837136.
Father Christmas outfit for hire. We have a
Father Christmas outfit that can be hired at £10 a time.
It is generously sized and consists of a hooded jacket with belt,
trousers, sack, wig and beard.
Father Christmas would need to provide his own wellies – and
presents. If anyone would
like to hire it please contact Pat Tribe on 01258 837684.
Church Christmas Cards are selling well, we
have them for sale in church each Sunday. They are priced at £2.50
for a pack of 5.
Tuesday 13th December St Andrew's
church will be welcoming Milborne First School for their Christmas
Service at 6.00pm.
Thursday 22nd. December -
7.30pm. St Andrew's
Church there will be a combined concert and
Carol Service. “JUBILATE”
- informal group of singers
will entertain you during the first half with a mixture of carols and
Christmas songs – all presented in Dickinsian costume.
During the interval we will be serving nibbles, wine and soft
drinks. The second half will be audience participation in a programme of
traditional carols and readings. Entry is free but there will be a
collection for your donations to cover costs and church funds.
PCC report – Pat and
Eva reported on the roof repairs which will be taking place shortly.
This is part of the quinquennial report. We have been given a grant from
the Dorset Historic Churches Trust which almost covers the cost of these
repairs.
Building of the toilet and kitchenette should also be starting in the new
year. We have accepted a builders quote for £36,398 +VAT (which is
recoverable) on top of this will be the Architects fees, NDDC fees for
buildings regulations, Wessex Water for connections to sewer and water
supply and some expenses for setting up the kitchenette. We are looking
at a total cost of around £42,000.
We have had a grant from The Erskin Muton Trust of £15,000 and
are awaiting a reply on an
application from Viridor . We still have some fund raising to do to meet
our target.
The Faculty allows us to sell the pews which we
removed to make room for this work. We now have 5 pews for sale. Anyone
interested should contact Eva or Pat.
If you visited our Christmas Market on November 19th.
where we had a display of the plans you will have been informed of this
work.
